5 Morning Success Habits of Online Business Owners

I don’t know about you, but I’m always trying to find new and better ways to make myself more productive and efficient throughout the day. It only takes a few small tweaks to rev up our morning routine to completely change our entire lives. It’s funny, so many of us believe that we need big, dramatic changes to make a difference, but it’s sometimes the smallest changes that end up being the catalyst of everything else. I’m here to teach you how to add in a few very simple, yet very powerful daily practices into your morning routine. This will set the tone for your entire day and over time, it’ll change your life! So to get started, I’ll tell you how my morning used to be. Let me know if you can relate to any of this? In the morning, my alarm goes off and usually the first thing I do is hit the snooze button. I lay there with my eyes closed, wishing to go back to sleep but the entire time my brain is spinning non-stop...thinking maybe I have five more minutes...maybe there’s four more minutes...maybe I have three more minutes...ugh I probably have only a couple minutes left, I really should get up and BEEP! BEEP! BEEEP! The alarm goes off! So, instead of getting up like a responsible person would do, I grab my cellphone and I check my social media and update myself on all the ‘likes’, 'comments' and 'messages' I missed throughout the night. I then spend another fifteen minutes or so scrolling through my Facebook and Instagram. I quickly realize the time and in a rushing panic I leap out of bed because I’m now running late! I quickly brush my teeth, let my dog out, feed my dog, have a super quick shower and get ready for the day…all while feeling panicked because I’m late. I’m very hungry but I definitely don’t have time to make anything to eat and I missed my chance to workout because I spent too much time on my phone this morning. By the time I actually get to work, I’m already stressed out and that sets the tone for the rest of my day. By not starting my morning with intention, I started my day off behind and in turn, I spend the entire trying to catch up. And you know how that goes…..you never catch up! So a while back when I living in Costa Rica, I decided I didn’t want to play the catch up game anymore. Why wake up every morning feeling like the day has already defeated me. I should control the day, not the other around. So I’ve come up with five incredibly easy but massively effective morning steps that I swear by and will never live without again. So listen up! If you want to start living a life you love that you don’t need a vacation from, you need to start being more productive, so I’d start implementing each one of these small action steps right away! Step #1: Organize - Write your “To – Do List” I can’t stress how crucial this step is, and rest assured, this is not a waste of your time! This is essential if you want to have a productive day. Spend ten to fifteen minutes each and every morning writing down what needs to get done. This sets your intention and the tone for the day. You have to prioritize your list into three different categories. “Must Do”, “Should do” and “Like to do” columns. If we just write down a list in one big column, our brains can’t decipher which is most important and time sensitive and we lack the ability to calculate how much time is needed to get something done just by looking at it on a list. It’s really important that you block out time in your calendar to make sure shit gets done. Make sure you prioritize your own tasks that directly benefit you reaching your goals. What happens a lot of the time is...say for example you want to work on your website for one hour a day, but you have a laundry-list of other work-related jobs that need to be done, so you push your own goal to the back burner. It’s important that you block off that one hour in your calendar to work on your website and treat it seriously like any other appointment. This does two things, firstly, it teaches you that YOU are a priority because you are! So many times we push our needs to the side and let other peoples tasks take precedence, which is not right! Why are their tasks more important than your own? Commit to blocking off the time to complete your own tasks throughout the day. And secondly, by keeping your appointment, you’ll actually start achieving your goals because shit will actually get done! Instead of wasting yet another day because you didn’t have “enough time." Figure out what your most important objective is for the day. What is it that you really want to accomplish? Write down what a successful day looks like to you as well as how you’ll reward yourself for a job well done. It’s really important to celebrate our wins along the way. Accomplishing one really important and essential task is better than accomplishing 10 tasks that don’t matter at all. Having a clear vision, executing and accomplishing your goals and then rewarding yourself afterwards for it will keep you motivated and you’ll want to continuously take the steps needed to reach your goals. So, make a plan and write your to-do list. Step #2: Exercise I know what you’re thinking, of course exercise has to be on this list but you hate exercising, right? I get it, I’m right there with you. I don’t like exercising either, I do it because I know it’s good for me. Like so many people have said before me, it’s imperative that you get your butt off the couch and you get moving. We don’t say this to just waste our breath, we said it because it is absolutely necessary for mental stamina and for a healthy body. What’s the point of chasing your goals and dreams if one day, when you accomplish it all... BUT your body is too sick to enjoy anything because you didn’t take care of it? Is that what you want to happen? Being a couch potato is a super fast way to get there. The human body was designed to move. Did you know… 3.2 million people die every single year all relating to physical inactivity! 3.2 Million! Do you want to be part of that stat? The good news is you don’t need to run a marathon to get your blood and oxygen flowing…a simple 30 minute power walk each and every day should suffice. Now I'm no doctor, so you really should go to a healthcare professional to find out what your body really needs, we all have unique bodies but the point is, it doesn't matter who we are, we ALL need to move. According to HealthLine, morning workouts have shown excellent benefits! Working out in the morning will increase your overall energy throughout the entire day. Not only that, but morning exercise has been proven to elevate your focus, meaning your brain will be sharper all day long. People who exercise in the morning also feel a sense of accomplishment which results in a much better and happier mood throughout the day. And in one study, researchers found that 24 hour fat burn was highest when people exercised before breakfast. So if you’re trying to lose weight, working out before breakfast might be the best time to do it. However and whenever you decide to workout throughout the day, just make sure you do. Get Moving! Step #3: Observation Time Many people think that practicing mediation, visualizations, practicing affirmations or to write in a journal is a huge waste of time, but that can't be further from the truth. Observing what you’ve done, where you want to go, and reflecting on our failures and victories is essential because without it, we will continue to make the same mistakes over and over again. The only way to get perspective on our life both on where we’ve been and where we are going is to take a step back every once and a while and look at the things we did and didn’t do. We all have our unique ways to go back and ponder over our life, some people meditate, other people pray, some write in their journals, others use visualization techniques, some do it first thing in the morning, others do it before they go to bed, some people do it in the shower, other people do it on their commute to and from work. It’s a time to reflect the previous 24 hours. Think about the good and the bad. A time to celebrate and remember the wins and it’s a time to be honest about the lessons and mistakes you have made. It’s also a time to practice gratitude and to set your intentions for the upcoming day. You’ll feel an immediate sense of calmness, it’ll centre you and mentally prepare you for whatever obstacles life might send your way. Step #4: Get Inspired! I love this tip! I especially love it on days I feel not at the top of my game. Fill your brain with a plethora of inspiration and motivation. This can be done in a variety of different ways like listening to podcasts like "The BE Podcast" watch and listen to YouTube videos, read books, blog posts, articles, and magazines. Fill your head with positive and uplifting messages. As humans, our need for encouragement is voracious and this is one of the best ways to do it! So get yourself inspired!

Step #5: ME TIME! This touches a little bit into Step #1 but it’s more about creating dedicated time specifically focusing on your biggest, most important goal. Setting aside a minimum of thirty minutes each day, ideally you would spend sixty to ninety minutes each day specifically working towards your biggest goal. For me, I spend this time writing in my book, drafting blog posts, creating new podcast episodes and I’m always focused on creating new content for you guys because that is what ultimately grows my business. When I wake up, I go to the gym and I actually workout to very powerful and motivating youtube videos. I come home, I prioritize my to-do list, reflect on where I’ve been and where I want to go and when I sit down for my ME TIME, the words just start flowing out of me because my day has started with intention. I know exactly what needs to get done. Spending an hour everyday focused on your biggest, most important goal will get you to where you want to be faster than you ever thought possible. Whatever your biggest, most important goal is whether it's going to the gym, food prepping, making time for your significant other, writing in your book, writing that blog post, working on your website, starting the business etc; whatever it is, make yourself a priority in your daily plan. Adding these five simple but powerful practices to your morning routine consistently can be done in an hour or two each day will, without a doubt transform your entire day and over time your entire life! So to recap: 1.) Write, organize and prioritize your to-do list. 2.) Get off the couch and get exercising! The human body is designed to move! 3.) Take a few minutes and observe where you’ve been and where you want to go. 4.) Fill your brain with motivating and inspiring messages. 5.) Make sometime for yourself to work on your biggest, most important goal. Remember, the only difference between people who succeed and the people who fail is that the successful ones refuse to quit.
